Nikon lens naming rules sometimes quite confusing, because they use letters and abbreviations to identify the components of the lens. In this article we will know the abbreviations used in the Nikon lens, so it will be easy for you to understand just by looking at the lens specification name, is quite useful especially when we are going to buy a lens.

AF
Stands for Auto Focus, means that the lens can focus automatically by the camera.

AF-D - Auto Focus with Distance Information
That is same as AF with that lens is able to send additional information the distance between the object image and the lens to the camera by the camera will be used to determine the metering

SWM - Silent Wave Motor
Lens with this name have the ability to change focus from auto focus to manual focus by simply turning the focusing quickly ring, without having to change modes as hanlanya focusing on the AF-D

AF-S - Auto Focus with Silent Wave Motor
AF-S lenses have a motor in it so it can work with all types of Nikon DSLR cameras that do not have their own motors; cameras among others: D40/D40X, D60, D5000.

IF - Internal Focusing
The lens focuses quickly able to find just by moving internal elements without having to move the lens barrel (without having to move and or lengthen the front of the lens). IF Lens with features capable of finding a focus faster than the non-IF lenses, these lenses are: Nikon 18-200mm f/3.5-5.6 VR II and Nikon 70-200mm f/2.8 VR II.

RF - Rear Focusing
How to find the lens is focused by moving an internal element in the rear lens.

G
If you see the letter G behind the lens aperture, for example: Nikon 50mm f/1.4G AF-S, which means that the lens does not have a ring to set the aperture. Almost all modern Nikon lenses of type G.

Micro
That is equal to Macro, meaning the lens for macro photography with specialization (close range).

PC-E - Perspective Control with Electronic Diapragm
Allows the tilt-shift technique, aka the lens can be shifted and bent.

ED - Extra Low Dispersion
Is a lens with minimal chromatic aberration, the lens does not scatter the light that makes the emergence of chromatic aberration in the photo. What is chromatic aberration?

DC - defocus Control
Lens with this feature allows us to control bokeh (what is bokeh?), Which is usually good for portrait photos.

VR - Vibration Reduction
Allows us to use the lens in a low shutter speed simply by memeganngya without the need for a tripod. Lens with VR is equipped with a motion sensor that detects movement of the hands and then compensate that can minimize blur.

SIC - Super Integrated Coating
Lens with this feature are able to produce better color and are usually able to eliminate ghosting and flare.

N - Nano Crystal Coat
The letter N is usually shown with a gold sticker on top. Lens with Nano Crystal Coat to minimize ghosting and internal flare so the resulting images could be more clear (clarity).

Dx
DX lenses with the letter means the lenses are specifically designed for use with cameras such as the Nikon DX-owned D3000/D5000/D90/D300s. DX lenses can also be used on camera Nikon full frame (FX), only the resolution of the resulting image is only half.

example:
If you observe the lens at the photo above, its official name is "AF-S Nikkor 24mm 1:1,4 G ED", we can see that this is a Nikon lens (Nikon Nikkor =) with a focal length of 24mm with a minimum aperture of f/1.4, has auto-focus didalamya equipped with Silent-wave motor (AF-S), with no aperture ring (G) and uses glasses with very low dispersion (ED). Right beside the letter N means it uses Nano Crystal Coat.
